2025 Workshops: Breakout 2

Battery Storage Demystified: What works, what doesn’t, why it matters

Dan Britton (ReVision Energy)
ROOM 325C

With severe weather events becoming more frequent and utility grid reliability increasingly under threat, homeowners are demanding solar PV systems paired with reliable battery storage. This session dives into the complexities of designing these systems, addressing key topics like fire safety regulations, strategic system sizing, and the practical realities of backup power functionality. We’ll explore the drivers behind this trend, such as utility demand response programs (like ConnectedSolutions) and the push toward full electrification. Participants will gain actionable insights into creating effective and compliant energy storage setups that meet homeowner needs while preparing for future innovations, like smart meters and residential time-of-use (TOU) metering.

Clean Energy Lives… in Your Community!

Susan Mlodozeniec (MassCEC)
ROOM 305A

CleanEnergyLivesHere.com is a state- and federally-funded campaign that encourages MA residents to electrify their home systems, appliances, and transportation. In this session, we’ll briefly share the high-level roadmap for our campaign through the end of this year. But mainly we'd love your advice: in 2026, how can we plan to further support community-led efforts towards electrification? For instance, we have funds to do things like add to the website, create new educational resources, and advertise. What are the gaps we can fill that will make your job easier?

Save Money & Cut Carbon:
Discover a powerful free tool to help residents create their own personalized home-decarbonization plan

David Green (Zero Carbon Home)
ROOM 340

This simple web-based software creates a free detailed 10-page plan to save you thousands of dollars a year by cutting your carbon emissions. It uses only your home’s address and heating fuel. The recommendations cover heat pumps (ducted and ductless), heat-pump hot-water tanks, insulation, windows and solar panels. It includes all MA and IRA subsidies to calculate payback and return on investment. This approach has been used on about 50 homes.

Setting Goals and Measuring Progress: Data for local climate action strategies
