Harvey Michaels

Harvey Michaels is an MIT Sloan Lecturer on the emerging Climate Solution Economy for the Sloan Sustainability Initiative, in collaboration with the International Urban and Regional Studies Program (SPURS). Harvey also directs the Climate and Cities Project in affiliation with MIT’s Environmental Solutions Initiative, where he served on the faculty team for The Future of the Grid research study. Harvey provided leadership to the formation of MIT’s Efficiency Forward Campus initiative, and serves as an advisor to cities including Boston and Cambridge, as well as Massachusetts utilities on community energy and climate action. He also serves on the US DoE Energy Systems Integration Advisory Board, and as board member for KPay, which provides off-grid India households with pay-as-you-go low cost solar energy. He is also active in the greater Boston Interfaith Environmental Justice movement.

Previously, Harvey was the founder/leader of two energy efficiency and smart grid companies: Aclara Software which provides online tools for energy analytics for electric grid market operators, utilities, and customers; and XENERGY (now DNV-GL) which specializes in energy efficiency services, financing, and strategic consulting. Previously he was a board member for EMeter/Siemens Digital Grid and CSG/ClearResult. He has degrees in Engineering and Environmental Planning from MIT.

Harvey and his family have lived in Wayland since 1983, and is a member of the town Energy and Climate Committee.
